Five on Friday - A Mixed Bag

It's been a little while since I last linked up with Amy at Love Made My Home's 'Five on Friday' party, so let's rectify that!  It's been a mixed bag of a week and one that has not been good on the waistline I can tell you!  So, here are my five...

1.  My regular walks with Tia continue and she now has a real 'grump' if I go on a different path on the Fens.  The landscape may be flat, but just lately every evening is different.  One day there are wheatfields, the next they are gone.

2. With the harvest in full swing it gives me the chance to capture the wonderful engineering of the farm machinery taking a well earned rest at the end of the day.  Yesterday I walked down a path that took me to where the combines were (a mistake on my part!), the dust and straw in the air is of epic proportions but the smell of freshly gathered crops was divine.

3.  Strawberries and raspberries.  Oh my, the cake that I made was unbelievable and tested my patience to its height.  I will be writing a post about this for the weekend!  A Spanish Windtorte.  A nightmare believe me!

4.  Red, white and blue gladioli, very poignant and patriotic bearing in mind Her Majesty's record breaking reign milestone this week.  The gladioli are gradually being gathered for the flower factories and they stretch as far as the eye can see on two sections of our walk.  Beautiful!

5.  A lovely surprise in work, a homemade birthday cake and very good coffee.  I had a wonderful birthday and thank you so much for your birthday wishes.  You made a forty something woman very happy!!

So, that's my five.  Have you got five things that you want to share?  Pop along to Amy's blog to see more.

Happy Friday!!

  2. Hey, Chel - many happy returns - you're looking much, much younger than whatever it is..! Love the way you've linked up the red, white and blue (and don't forget Last Night of the proms on Saturday). And you really can't beat the smell of a freshly harvested field on a warm day in late summer/early autumn - magical.

  10. I just left birthday wishes on your previous post dear. How lovely the cake (Victoria Sponge?) and coffee must have been at work - so glad they celebrated special YOU!

Yes, the news about Her Majesty just brought me shivers of joy and admiration! Thrilled she has reached yet another important milestone in her awesome reign, but also the fact that I recall her Coronation Day so vividly all those years ago - especially the fabulous block party in our neighborhood in Torquay!

Your fields and flowers are beautiful - Tia has such exciting places to 'go walkies' - wish I could join in.
    Hugs - Mary

  11. Yummy looking cake, and I'm curious to read the post about the Spanish Windtorte. Sounds intriguing.
It's a great milestone for our Queen Elizabeth - I've long admired her perseverance and fortitude in the midst of some very trying days. She is a rock to Great Britain.
Lovely walk you took with your Tia - I love the scent of freshly cut grass.

  13. Happy Birthday, Chel. You are 35, right? : ) I can't wait to hear about your Windtorte. I can't imagine it was very easy. The bakers on GBBO seemed to stress a lot over it!

  27. Hi Chel, I so enjoyed seeing your lovely photos. The ones of the fields and combine are especially remininescent since I'm from a small farming community in eastern Washington. I don't think anyone down here in southern California could even identify a combine! (just kidding) I do miss seeing the beautiful green fields and nature. I hope you have a wonderful week. My best to you :)

I planted gladiolas in my garden this year. We did very well. I have four blooming now, our garden season is starting to end here in Wisconsin. I had over 25 glads this year!! I was so happy.
