It's been a little while since I last linked up with Amy at Love Made My Home's 'Five on Friday' party, so let's rectify that! It's been a mixed bag of a week and one that has not been good on the waistline I can tell you! So, here are my five...
1. My regular walks with Tia continue and she now has a real 'grump' if I go on a different path on the Fens. The landscape may be flat, but just lately every evening is different. One day there are wheatfields, the next they are gone.
2. With the harvest in full swing it gives me the chance to capture the wonderful engineering of the farm machinery taking a well earned rest at the end of the day. Yesterday I walked down a path that took me to where the combines were (a mistake on my part!), the dust and straw in the air is of epic proportions but the smell of freshly gathered crops was divine.
3. Strawberries and raspberries. Oh my, the cake that I made was unbelievable and tested my patience to its height. I will be writing a post about this for the weekend! A Spanish Windtorte. A nightmare believe me!
4. Red, white and blue gladioli, very poignant and patriotic bearing in mind Her Majesty's record breaking reign milestone this week. The gladioli are gradually being gathered for the flower factories and they stretch as far as the eye can see on two sections of our walk. Beautiful!
5. A lovely surprise in work, a homemade birthday cake and very good coffee. I had a wonderful birthday and thank you so much for your birthday wishes. You made a forty something woman very happy!!
So, that's my five. Have you got five things that you want to share? Pop along to Amy's blog to see more.
Happy Friday!!

Happy Friday!!
Come and join the party...
The red, white and blue glads are just glorious! The countryside of the Fens is just lovely! Happy Birthday! Hope you have many many more wonderful birthdays ahead.
ReplyDeleteHey, Chel - many happy returns - you're looking much, much younger than whatever it is..! Love the way you've linked up the red, white and blue (and don't forget Last Night of the proms on Saturday). And you really can't beat the smell of a freshly harvested field on a warm day in late summer/early autumn - magical.
ReplyDeleteOooh I'd love to see all those gladioli in the field. I have a couple of vases full here, they are just starting to open. You've had a very colourful week. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh the cake looks so yummy, baking is on the list this weekend. I have gladioli in my house at the moment love them.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekendx
The gladioli are gorgeous. I'm trying not to look at the rasps and strawbs as I might start to salivate on my keyboard! LOL
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, sounds like a good birthday always a bonus when cake is involved. The gladioli were stunning, harvest is in full swing around here too.
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday greetings!!! Two wonderful cakes in your post, love the sound of the strawberry and raspberry one and that gladioli photograph, stunning
ReplyDeleteI like your five today! The cake looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend, good Chel!
Oh to take a walk amid all those gladious. What a joy that would be. Happy belated birthday.
ReplyDeleteI just left birthday wishes on your previous post dear. How lovely the cake (Victoria Sponge?) and coffee must have been at work - so glad they celebrated special YOU!
ReplyDeleteYes, the news about Her Majesty just brought me shivers of joy and admiration! Thrilled she has reached yet another important milestone in her awesome reign, but also the fact that I recall her Coronation Day so vividly all those years ago - especially the fabulous block party in our neighborhood in Torquay!
Your fields and flowers are beautiful - Tia has such exciting places to 'go walkies' - wish I could join in.
Hugs - Mary
Yummy looking cake, and I'm curious to read the post about the Spanish Windtorte. Sounds intriguing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great milestone for our Queen Elizabeth - I've long admired her perseverance and fortitude in the midst of some very trying days. She is a rock to Great Britain.
Lovely walk you took with your Tia - I love the scent of freshly cut grass.
Yummy baking and pretty flowers for Five on Friday. Walking is part of our daily routine as well, just love to get out to different places and enjoy Nature.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Chel. You are 35, right? : ) I can't wait to hear about your Windtorte. I can't imagine it was very easy. The bakers on GBBO seemed to stress a lot over it!
ReplyDeleteThe berries and cake look yummy! And the flowers are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHow funny that Tia is so attached to her favourite walk! That is very cute isn't it. I look forward to hearing more about the windtorte! I am wildly impressed!!!! Thank you for joining Five On Friday! I hope that you have a great weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteThe photos all look beautiful, and yummy. Thanks for sharing such beauty today. Hope your day is blessed. ~:)
ReplyDeleteOh the gladioli are fabulous and how very fitting. The strawberries and raspberries look gorgeous. Happy belated birthday, have a great weekend x

Lovely things to see on every hand! My daughter is very keen to make the Spanish Windtorte after seeing them on Great British bakeoff! Very technical! Belated birthday wishes!

Loved the gorgeous flowers.
Both the berries and that cake looked mighty yummy.

Belated birthday wishes
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday wishes....thanks for sharing your day. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI love that countryside where you walk with your doggie. I can smell the dust of the combine, love these agricultural photos and than the gladioli in these colours, must have been a stunning sight. The cake and strawberries look delicious!
ReplyDeleteFive lovely things to enjoy. Your cake looks lovely and very tasty - belated Happy Birthday wishes:)
ReplyDeleteA great five here, love all of them.
ReplyDeleteHi Chel, I so enjoyed seeing your lovely photos. The ones of the fields and combine are especially remininescent since I'm from a small farming community in eastern Washington. I don't think anyone down here in southern California could even identify a combine! (just kidding) I do miss seeing the beautiful green fields and nature. I hope you have a wonderful week. My best to you :)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI planted gladiolas in my garden this year. We did very well. I have four blooming now, our garden season is starting to end here in Wisconsin. I had over 25 glads this year!! I was so happy.
Have a happy week,
Carla
