Autumn's Beauty at Burghley House
For the last couple of weeks I have been dreaming about crispy brown leaves beneath my feet, so when I heard it was going to rain, and rain hard, I knew I had to get to Burghley and risk the showers before things started getting all mushy. So, are you ready for a gentle walk my 'deers'?!!
The last of the summer roses surrounded the driveway's flower beds and the smell was incredibly strong along with the lavender that danced by their feet. White roses on one side and red on the other, all equally strongly scented.
However, I suppose I had better get keep with the rules!
Our walk was shared with deer of all sizes and temperaments. These two were enjoying some play jousting with their antlers.
There is still green in the trees but the slight change was there to see, especially beneath our feet. At last, we were able to hear the crispiness beneath our feet.
The trees are amazing in the grounds. They seem to look as though they have been corkscrewed out of the earth.
The avenues of trees looked nearly ready for their sleepy slumber that would follow in the next few months.
Our walk took us through the metal gate and onto the bridge to give gorgeous views of the House and lake.
The autumn colours gently showing through the green.
Our walk then followed the lake back to the house and the sun started to make more of an appearance. It was warm but not summer warm - warm with the autumn bite.
It was so quiet on the bridge and we didn't want to leave here.
The house was beginning to be bathed in the sunlight. It's always a joy to see and visit this landmark (past posts are here, here and here), but to just walk around the grounds is free to everyone.
I've censored the statue that stands in the driveway of the house (too many 'grapes' on show!).
Mumsy had a lovely reflective time walking around as my Dad hasn't been too well lately, so she was just able to be quiet for a while.
And so, it was time to head back as the storm clouds had finally appeared on the horizon. Time to leave this one snoozing... where's his blue badge?!!
Autumn has come, slowly, but the comforting colours are appearing. So, how's the season changing in your part of the world?
Oh, and this shot was taken by Miss Teen of me and Mumsy...
Just look at those leaves!!!
Have a wonderful week.
Take care.

Wordless Wednesday - (A Contradiction) The Written Word
I can't believe it's been nearly a year since I was at the Beamish Museum in Co. Durham (my post is here).
Take care.

Autumn Nesting
After a bit of a yawn and a wakening stretch, I am back! Thank you so much for your sweet comments while I just had a little rest, you all made me smile so much while I put my feet up (well, in my mind anyway!). I now know that I was about to go down with the dreaded lurgy, which is why I felt a bit flat and jaded.

So with my feathers now back in order and my feet nicely rested after the recent London trips, it was lovely just to keep things slow and close to home.
September was certainly a warm one with the sun shining all day, dry, even humid at times.

September was certainly a warm one with the sun shining all day, dry, even humid at times.

The beautiful insects resting, just like me, and trusting their surroundings.
They accompanied me along short woodland walks, just like fairies guiding the way along the paths with their wings reflecting the sun.
On the woodland floor, the crisp brown carpet sang beneath my feet.

And the fungi played their own symphony.
My autumn clock is well and truly ticking away now and each morning I fill my lungs with the crisp air that helps me breathe a lot easier.

I always find September to be the fastest of months. One blink and it's gone. Maybe it's because I love Autumn so much and I wait for this month for so long. One sure sign that September is almost over is when we cut the fig back in the garden after it's annual burst of green and fruits. Then, our back bedroom windows are able to see the Mill once again. This one is without sails and is a private dwelling, but it makes us smile, especially with the Christmas lights still in place for their December switch on.
So October begins. The nights are quickly drawing in, the pumpkins are filling the shop shelves, and the weather has a definite welcome change. I love rain on a weekend, purely so that I can sit down in my cosy living room with black and white films on, or a good Carry On film!! So, today was a lovely day. It poured down! It has been ages since we last saw a decent spell of rain here so we were more than happy to make ourselves comfortable and have a lazy day. Looking through the patio doors I couldn't resist but take a shot of the changing ivy colours. It always looks at its best at this stage before the leaves fall to give a multi coloured carpet.
The potted Christmas tree has been moved nearer the house to start being nurtured again before it gets adorned for the front of the house during the festive season. It certainly had a good grooming today with the rain polishing it's pine needles.
Before long, the sun made its appearance and the long awaited water glistened in the much cooler sun light.
So no real trips out and about to write about, but feeling a little more adventurous now that the lurgy has left me!
