Wordless Wednesday - Keeping the Spiders at Bay


Don't forget to collect conkers and put them in the corners of your window sills to prevent spiders coming in and setting up home for winter!

    Thanks for the tip. We have a couple of horse chestnuts at the cottage and were wondering what to do with the fruit. :)

    I always seem to pick up a conker or two and pocket them at this time of year - but, hey, I like spiders too!

    Conkers- never heard them called that before. We ball them buckeyes. Ohio, the state I was born in is called the Buckeye State. Love them, make me think of 'home'.

    I've been keeping an eye out in the park for conkers. There's one tree in particular that looks like it's going to drop a few big ones - I hope I get there first! :oD

    I had no idea!! Spiders are not always good to have inside the house, especially here where some such as the Brown Recluse have a deadly bite! Little regular ones are OK but do make a lot of nuisance webs to clean up. Problem is, no conkers here, horse chestnuts are not a local tree.

    I've heard about the conker trick before but have never been sure if it works. I once investigated some sprays/plugins made out of the same substance and cried laughing at the reviews on Amazon about how much the spiders seemed to love them! x

    We have lots of chestnuts down at our cottage...
    I have never heard this before!
    Do we wait for them to ripen and split?
    Do we put the skin and the nut inside on our window sills?
    These won't attract other critters, will they? Hahaha!

    Spider season as I call it is well and truly here, but I had the builder block up and seal any holes when we had work done to this house and it really does help. There's a big one by the back door-on the outside-but it can stay, and a huge False Black Widow in the porch which is busy catching flies...doing a great job!
