Are you a 'No Reply Blogger'

Just a short mid week note.  Recently I became aware that had I had become a 'No Reply Blogger'.  This was a lightbulb moment as to why I didn't receive answers to any questions I may have put on other bloggers' comments.  The wonderful Nata's Nest made me aware and she has a great post on this with links (her post is here).

I found that my problem was that I had transferred over to Google+ and there are no instructions to rectify this.  As a result the instructions given by other websites to rectify this do not apply as Google+ does not allow you to go to the screen to tick to receive emails.  SO, I have reverted back to the more controllable and reliable Blogger profile.

The other thing I found, with the Google Friend Connect (you know when you go to follow a blog), a lot of the time it would show Sweetbriar Dreams and 'send a message'.  There would be no link to me at all.  I found this disappointing when I received a new follower and their profile was the same, I just couldn't link up and see their blog to follow.  So, when changing your Google Friend Connect Profile, go to the box and sign in, the next screen asks how you want to sign in - I clicked on Google, type in your pasword, click on options, click on site settings, click on change to go to which profile you want to use.  Then click done.
If there is a quicker way of doing this, please let me know!

Addition to the above post, again thanks to Natas Nest.  Once you have gone over to Blogger, do the necessary tick against the show email box, THEN convert back to Google+ (if you want to).  I've just tried it and my email address still shows.  See how it works for you. xx
Take care.

  1. I have often wondered about this as I used to like to reply to comments via e-mail - but this will only work if other people change their settings also, - have I got it right? I'll follow your instructions and see what happens. Thanks Chel.

  2. I love to follow up with blog writers simply because I realize how important it is to have feedback. Especially if one has worked hard on a blog post and then receive no comments. It is not because the content was not good or encouraging it is just no one commented. As a writer my goal is always to encourage others if I can ... that is just who I choose to be in this 'arena'. We all need cheerleaders and if one word can 'help' then that is what I will try to do.

  3. I worry that we will eventually all be forced to use Google profiles ... but until that dreaded day I'm sticking with my Blogger profile. Of course you can still be a no-reply blogger on Blogger if you don't share an email address with your account.

  4. I got a bit confused with the Google+ profile as it isn't as user friendly and when I found out that people couldn't reply to my comments on their posts I felt better that I could go back to Blogger. They make it a bit scary, that you will be losing something, but the only thing I had to re-do was my profile. I feel at peace with the world again! :-)

  7. Google + isn't all it's cracked up to be, is it? I had the same problem and fixed it awhile ago. Good advice for all of us.

  8. I get confused with it all, too but I'm glad you mentioned the no reply blogger. I just wrote that to someone in a comment. They asked me a question in their comment to me but the only way to answer them was in a comment on their blog! That's not the best way to answer an email. Sweet hugs!

  9. I must admit I have stuck with blogger as my brain doesn't cope with change. However, my only excuse for being a no-reply blogger is that I read a post, think of a reply but then forget to post it. Oooops, I'm trying to change, honest!

  12. I'm just totally confused by it all. So I just reply on each comment. Makes it easier. I switched to Google plus because my pictures were taking forever to down load. Now they are so much faster. xx

  14. Hi Chel, great that you could solve this. I'm happy when I can help and thanks for mentioning my post and blog :-). About google+, I had posted a link to Rachel's post about what to do as a google+ user with the no-reply problem. I understood Rachel that way, that she reverted to blogger profile, then changed the settings there, and then returned to dashboard and switched back to google+ profile. So she could be a google+ user and at the same time no no-reply blogger anymore. But I'm not familiar with google+ so maybe I understood this wrong? Anyway, the main thing is that you could solve your problem and if you decided to get away from google+, why not? I can totally understand that :-).

  15. Hi Chel! I'm so glad that I can leave a comment. When I clicked on your name in my comments section it took me to your Google+ page and I said uh oh...I won't be able to leave you a comment because I'm not a member of Google+. I tried something thou, this time. I clicked on your post title and it worked. I got in. Have a lovely evening.

  16. And actually, when you leave a comment on my blog, Cranberry Morning, it shows you as a no-reply blogger, even now - which is why I have to go to your blog and leave a comment to let you know. It's all so strange, isn't it!
